A Word To Live By.....

Honor.  Yes, it's my "One Little Word" for 2011.  It's a noun and a verb.
It's a word to live by and live with.  It's something to strive for.  To teach my children.  Something to give away and something to carry myself with.

No wonder you can't believe.  For you gladly honor each other, but you don't care about the honor that comes from the one who alone is God.  John 5:44 NLT

The word honor chose me this year.  I really wanted a different word.  I really had a lot of awesome words in mind.
Something like illuminate.  Sparkle.  Glow.  Brave.  Reach.
Or even something bold like radical.  or transform.

But as many of you know...
Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.  (Proverbs 19:21)

So while I was contemplating a much flashier word, there was a calm but persistent whisper that kept saying, "Honor".  "Honor".  "Honor".
The more I think about this word, the more I know it is the perfect word for me.

I think this word really ties in with all of my goals this year.

These are some of the ways I plan to apply the word honor to my life this year:

  • Live my life in a way that is honoring to God
  • Lift up and honor my husband
  • Honor my children by listening to them
  • Celebrate and honor relationships by sending out more cards
  • Honor time by making the most of it
What's your word for the year?
